Greetings Wayfarers! It’s great to be back in the world of Local Heroes. I took about a month off to recharge my batteries after finishing the Royal Road draft of Local Heroes volume 1. Now I’m back, refreshed and ready to dive back into the adventures of Vash, Corwin, and all the others that you’ll come to know better in this book.
My major focus at this time is getting the Royal Road draft of Local Heroes Volume 2 going. I’m pleased to say it’s going well, and I’m happy with what I’ve done so far. Currently, it is going to be titled Local Heroes: The Glory Road, with Volume 1 being re-titled as Local Heroes: Vagabond. I think those titles will reflect the stories better than the original titling.
I’ve put together a loose outline for Volume 2, all the major beats, but leaving myself some wiggle room for when my Wayfarers inevitably wander off the beaten path. The new book will be five arcs like Volume 1. Each arc should be about twelve chapters each. So Volume 2 should reach 60 chapters in total on Royal Road, and roughly 150,000 words. Shorter than the initial draft of Volume 1, but still a pretty hefty book.
I am also working on editing Volume 1. The story will remain the same, but I’m going through and tightening it up. The Royal Road draft of Volume 1 ended up at over 200,000 words, which is too damn long, so I’ll be pruning parts in some places, while expanding others. Corwin will get more chapters, and there will be less Vash wandering around by himself. The goal is to have Volume 1 edited and ready for print by the time I complete Volume 2.
That being said, the edited chapters of Volume 1 and preview chapters of Volume 2 will be available only on my new Patreon, which will launch in tandem with Volume 2 on September 30th. I’m doing a lot of work to make becoming a patron worth it in terms of extras and goodies. I hope you’ll join me there and help support my work. The best way to keep up to date on what I’m doing, when products become available, etc. Is to join my Newsletter! Not only do you get updates from me, you’ll get subscriber goodies like first looks at covers, artwork, and stories.
Keep an eye on benwritesathing.com. I’ll be posting weekly goodies from Gideon’s Guide, and attractions from the Glory Road. The plan is eventually to compile these entries together with art in a cool World of Local Heroes book.
So, as you can see, I’ve got a lot of work ahead of me. Thanks for following on my journey, and I’ll see you on the Glory Road!
